Goal Diggers - Sarah Boughtwood

north shore osteopath goal diggers sarah boughtwood

Meet Sarah Boughtwood, this weeks Featured Goal Digger! Sarah is an Osteopath based in Takapuna who specialises in back pain (we’ve all been there) and pregnancy. To be honest before Sarah got in touch with me, I had no idea what an Osteopath was – I had certainly heard the name before but couldn’t tell you what they treated or how they treated it. Do you know?? Well I’m here to tell you and introduce to one gorgeous and talented Osteopath. Osteopathy is a natural form of manual medicine that facilitates healing by focussing on how the skeleton, joints, muscles, nerves, circulations, connective tissue and internal organs function as a holistic unit. And I’m all about holistic health! Sarah treats headaches, muscle aches, sinus and ear infections, running injuries and pregnancy related aches and pains! ONE STOP SHOP if you ask me. As well as being a Goal Digger, opening her own business and being a strong promoter of holistic health, Sarah also manages to find time for herself and her family. Keep reading to see how she does it…

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF…

I am currently living on the North Shore in Auckland with my husband, gorgeous wee son and our dog Harley. I am a part time osteopath, with my own clinic in Takapuna and a full time mum. I love catching up with friends and getting outdoors. I get bored being at home all day.

THEY CALL ME A GOAL DIGGER BECAUSE I HAVE RECENTLY…

I threw myself in the deep end. I decided to open and run my own clinic with a 3 month old baby. April marked my one year in business and I have never looked back. I love being my own boss, with my own hours, meaning I get the best of both, motherhood and my career. I am a strong believer of living a balanced life.

I WAS HELD BACK FROM ACHIEVING MY GOALS WHEN…

I am scared I wont achieve my goals or get the best result. I love diving in the deep end and sometimes act before I think, which is not a good thing.

I’M A RISK TAKER BECAUSE…

Life is too short. You never know what is around the corner and living with the ‘what if’s’ is not me. I would rather have tried and failed than not know what the outcome would have been.

MY KICK-ASS GOALS FOR 2016 ARE…

I have lots, both professional and personal. I am always aiming to build my clinic, I love meeting new clients and helping them. My goal is to educate on health and wellness, where clients can help themselves live a healthier but maintainable lifestyle. We have a lot of personal goals this year…sell our house and build another. We are also thinking of a sibling for our son.

MY GOAL FOR MY CLIENTS…

Is to take charge and further their understanding of their health. What stresses them, ways they can relax, how to increase exercise doing something they enjoy.

I BELIEVE IN A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO HEALTH AND WELLNESS BECAUSE…

You can’t fix a problem with just treating the symptoms. You need to address the cause, whether it is stress, diet, exercise, posture and so on. They all can play a role.

MY TOP TIPS FOR AMAZING OVERALL HEALTHY SKIN AND WELLBEING ARE…

  • Water, water and water

  • Less processed food and just a general well balanced diet

  • Coconut oil, both as a cleanser and a moisturizer

  • Removing makeup at the end of the day

  • Not being on the pill. I have never taken the pill (oral contraception) as I am useless at remembering to take medication and I do not believe in mucking with your hormone system. Each to their own but this works for me.

TOP 3 BUCKET LIST GOALS I HAVE TICKED OFF…

  • A successful business

  • A family

  • Lots of true friends

TOP 3 BUCKET LIST GOALS TO TICK OFF…

  • Continued success and growth with my business

  • Get over my fear of public speaking

  • Become a Pilates instructor to add to my osteopathic treatments

#WORD…

Life in moderation

WHAT I AM LISTENING TO THIS WEEK…

MUST READ …

Anything by Dr Libby. She is AMAZING! A wealth of knowledge. I adore her knowledge and presence.

WHEN I JUST NEED TO LAUGH I…

Talk to a good girlfriend

WHILE YOU’RE HERE, LETS SET SOME MAGIC AND MINDFUL INTENTIONS! IN 2016 I WILL…

Do More … Reading, I find it hard to fit in.

See More … Of New Zealand, small family trips away.

Be More … Of myself, it is natural to be competitive and compare yourself to others, whether it be professional or personal. I am lucky with my job and owning my own business so  I can have the best of motherhood and running my own business. Thus creating a nice work/life balance. Others may earn more than me but I get more time with my family which to me is very important.

I INVEST IN MY BODY BY…

I am kind to myself. I do not look at myself in the mirror and put myself down for not having a ‘model’ body. I am a healthy weight that I am happy with. Sure we all want to be slimmer but being nice to yourself is very important. We walk the dog and I try when I can walk to my son’s daycare and back. I do not drink alcohol too often and am conscious of what I eat.

I INVEST IN MY MIND BY…

Reading.

I INVEST IN MY SOUL BY…

Going for a walk and taking timeout by myself.

THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE I WOULD GIVE MY 16 YEAR OLD SELF…

Relax, make the most of your teenage years.

MY TOP 3 TIPS FOR LIVING A KICK-ASS FULFILLING LIFE…

  • Have dreams and goals and just go for it. Aim high!

  • ‘Make a life you do not need a holiday from’

  • Have a career you love. We all spend so many hours at work, so it is important you love what you do.

MY TYPICAL DAY FROM AM TO PM…

It varies day to day. If I’m working it is dropping my son at daycare then off to work. I like getting to work early so I am not rushed, can set up my room, put on my Ecoya candle (Sweet fruits and pink champagne is my current favourite). Then clients, emails, blog, website, meetings. Days at home with my son vary, playdates, bush walks, playground adventures, beach walks, catching up with friends (generally with kids). Spending time as a family and one on one time with my partner is very important to me. Your relationship can easily get lost in parenthood, so we always make time for one another.
